WENDY FAUX

History is empowering when we use it as a force for good; when it has been collated from all angles to give the complete picture.

I have always been fascinated by people: we all have a story to tell.

My role in the British Army for over 20 years was to find those stories to recount to local communities the extraordinary lives of young men and women of their neighbours.

I want to tell my story. I didn’t want to leave my life for history as a series of research papers or policy documents. To me this would be an incomplete history.

As I look forward, I also look back at what we have been given: paintings; sculptures; diaries; letters; artefacts; photographs and I wonder what is the complete history? In some small areas of history how can I ensure a more complete history for future generations?

As Empowered History evolves, my desire is to work with young people and teams to show how history has shaped them through works of art, writings and the media surrounding them daily; to encourage critical thinking and research so that they can be empowered to write a more complete history of their own lives... and so that I can learn more about the cultures and world around me.

Empower:

1. to give someone the power or authority to do something

2. to give someone more control over their own life or the situation they are in.

  History:

all the events that happened in the past.
